Wildfires

Under the theme of “Wildfires,” we developed a three-dimensional data visualization.

The height of each bar represents the number of fires in the respective federal state, the circle indicates the burned area, and the color of the bar signifies the cause of the fires. Neon orange represents fires caused by humans, while black, scorched areas indicate naturally occurring fires.

Informational cards attached to the model fully explain its details and provide viewers with additional insights into wildfires in Germany.

Neon orange is used as a signal color throughout our design. We chose this color because it is not only used in forestry but also visually resembles flames. The model was laser-cut from a wooden board, leaving charred edges that perfectly align with the wildfire theme through their appearance and smell.

This project was created in collaboration with Katrin Baierl and Tim Ritter.
